Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that is toxic to humans when inhaled. It is produced when fuels such as gasoline, wood, or natural gas are burned. Exposure to high levels of carbon monoxide can be deadly, as it prevents the body’s cells from getting enough oxygen.
